Eats, Shoots and Leaves

As if it wasn't bad enough having to obsess about correct spelling on this blog, I had the misfortune to come across and read that popular punctuation book by Lynne Truss in the library today. It sold loads of copies in the past few years, but I have to say that I didn't particularly enjoy her writing style. Still, the rules were spelt out and it now gives me something else to fret about!

Luckily; I,ve alway's been pretty. good at punctuation- so it won^t be th?at much of a problem for me:!!!

Here's an exercise for the punctuation expert-

Punctuate this sentence:

Woman without her man is nothing

Aha - that's in the book! See - I can speed read and retain information!!

Male version:
Woman, without her man, is nothing
Female version:
Woman; without her, man is nothing

or something like that. I don't know which statement is more false, but it reminds me of the joke:

A man is incomplete until he marries; then he's finished!!!!!

I wonder would Mr Stalker agree?!!!

Mrs Stalker

On that topic, how about punctuating this :

Single men don't get nagged

O.K, Mr. Smarty-pants, try this one:

the child that mary and joe had had had had had no dinner yet

It requires some lateral thinking, not just skill at punctuation...

Mr. Stalker definitely isn't finished yet. He needs a lot more work!

Hear, hear, Tiger!!!

I pity poor Mr Stalker - First hunted down and then beaten slowly and inexorably into submission!!

After some deliberation, I would say "The child that Mary and Joe had had had, had had no dinner yet", where Mary and Joe couldn't have their own sprog and had had one 'had' for them!

I think I'm getting a headache...

ok Mrs Stalker

Try this one

The child mary and joe had had never had the misfortune of nagging had he not been a bachelor had he hadn't he'd had had a lot

Full marks on the lateral thinking and the punctuation!
Tiger D - Single men, don't get nagged, get married.
(o.k., so I took some poetic licence)

Don't encourage him, Mrs Stalker, for pity's sake!!!!!

Very funny, Mrs S, and well deserved, might I say!

Now, children, back to work!!!!!

Last post proves my point, everything women do is perfect, everything men do is wrong, just add bad punctuation teasers to the list. In my defence, mine was original not taken from a book. -500 marks to Aidan for pandering to women as usual
