Found my own chain-saw!

Further to Mrs. Stalker's excellent suggestion in the comments to this post, I am delighted to announce that I have found my own equally annoying method to deal with the problem!

As luck would have it, we were both in the sitting room when "Malcolm in the Middle" came on yesterday. The theme song is fairly infectious and very apt. It's by They Might Be Giants and contains the refrain - "You're not the boss of me now". Given that my nickname for herself is "Boss" and she hates it, this makes it the perfect response from me to any "suggestions" from her! Plus, my singing voice is torture, even to deaf people!!!!

It's efficacy has already been proved in the debut sing-a-long performance, which, at least, I enjoyed immensely!!! I shall have to sing it a capella in future, but I will enjoy the challenge!

I laugh at people coming up with these techniques, like chain saw noises (described by Mrs. Stalker and the bould Aidan) etc. One shouldn't have to resort to techniques, you just tell people what's what and thats the end of it. It is simple, you just say 'I'm not taking shite or grief so don't even bother thinking about giving it to me'. It's like dealing with a child, if you look at a disturbing trend in Ireland (last Fri Night's Lata Late show) we see people hiring the expensive services of child behaviour therapists. It's all rubbish, my parents didn't need it, I knew where the line was and knew not to cross it, and I couldn't have any more respect for my parents than I have now. Coming up with chainsaw techniques with your partner (be it male or female)is like hiring a child behaviour specialist, it's only necessary if you don't tell them where your line is, not the bully line, just the line where you find their behaviour unacceptable and as such will not be entertained for a millisecond. So the message is folks...cop on!

Also! who in their right mind watches Malcolm in the middle? ..... American rubbish (like friends, Will & Grace etc), I'd rather sit through a few hours of boring opera/ballet on St Stephens day than watch that American tripe.

My pstcho-analyst says that it's ok if I'm not confrontational. Both he and my life coach agree that my inner-self can achieve harmony with external influences by implementing a more passive-agressive approach, based on negative re-inforcement techniques!!!

It must be great to live in black and white!

Just because you don't like something, Tiger, dosn't automatically make it crap! I'm sure there are lots of people who think what you like is rubbish too! Such things are obviously subjective.

In my opinion, Malcolm is very funny and Friends was good before it ran out of steam (and when it wasn't on 6 times a day!). I'd agree with you on Will & Grace though!!

I must say, Malcolm in the Middle is brilliant. Saw a repeat of the episode recently where the genius class got a new teacher who happened to be particularily bitter and twisted. He started off by giving them a written test - which was eventually scored to 4 decimal places 99.9991%, 99.9875%, etc. The ranking system results in everyone getting super-competitive and turning on each other. Pure evil!

I remember that episode alright - hilarious.

I also liked the episode with the homage to the beginning of Raiders of the the Lost Ark (my all-time favourite start to any film!).

Hal made a run for the exit of a shop he had a crap job in. The manager dropped the shutters and Hal had to dash through various obstacles, finally chased by a small sponge ball. He finally escaped, rolling under the almost completely dropped shutter!

being chased by a sponge ball sounds side-splittingly hilarious, now I really wished I had watched that rubbish....not!

Even the mere thought of your singing "You're not the boss of me now" with a triumphant smile on your face makes me cringe. Keep going the way you're going and you won't have to make a decision about leaving Singapore - you'll get kicked out!

Oh ye of little humour (and blinkers!)!!

Anonymous said...

Yes, I agree, little blinkers also. Americans just can't do comedy, it's lightweight drivel that appeals to the intellectual lightweight masses, real comedy is Blackadder, The new Statesman, Bottom, Fr. Ted etc

Speaking of sponges, do you know what else is v. funny - Spongebob Squarepants. Twisted humour in the guise of a kid's cartoon and a great start to any Saturday morning.

Thanks for the female feedback, Claire! I'm in danger of getting killed, nevermind kicked out!!!

I haven't seen Spongebob Squarepants, but I'm sure I'll be able to catch it some Saturday morning soon, on my return!!!

Not a fan of cartoons like the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park etc- they tend to annoy me! I did like "Pinky and the Brain" though!!!
