Spent several hours (in the boiling sun!) navigating to the Ministry of Manpower (sounds like something from a Monty Python sketch!) building. Despite being impressed by the cleaniness of the building itself and the very efficient way the servuce is run, it turns out that the info on their web site is erroneous. The upshot is that I do have to find a sponsor/employer for my work permit.
I've applied for a few suitable lecturing jobs already. It's early days yet, so I'll wait and see how things go.
