Crikey!

I spent an enjoyable day in the zoo today. It’s in a scenic part of the island that I hadn’t seen before. It’s a very impressive place, but boy, was it hot and humid. Even though I’m used to the heat now, I don’t think I’ve ever sweated as much in the one day (well, not since I had to ask a woman out for the first time!).

The highlights was seeing the magnificent animals and making smart remarks while the crocodile hunter, aka Steve Irwin, was on stage! The lowlights were twice being bitten on the feet by swarms of ants (buggers won’t leave me alone!) while listening to the aforementioned big mouthed, self-styled Crocodile Dundee!

The big goberoo himself was on stage for about 30 minutes with his usual antics (without crocs, unfortunately). He was there to open the new “Australian Outback” section. As shown in the picture, he played around with a snake, but unfortunately it didn’t manage to bite him! He said his signature word “crikey!” about 20 times. At one stage, he was talking about some huge croc which was so big it wouldn’t fit between his legs (he straddles them to subdue them!). I said it would have fitted in his mouth easily!

On the way back, I was driven in the taxi from the zoo to the train station by Darth Vader’s breathing double!!! I kept thinking that the guy was going to keel over. His breathing was extremely laboured and I didn’t see any oxygen tank on standby! Luckily, he didn’t croak and mouth to mouth was not necessary!

More posts on the zoo to follow…
