In response to a request for info on the above mentioned hotel, here is what little I know about it!
While I'd like to say that it's a bit of a lottery staying there (groan...!), apparently it's all very swank! If it's a taste of old school Blighty before the sun started setting on the Tan empire you're after (which by your request, appears to be the case!), then you're going to the right place. Don't be surprised if you see a retired British colonel in hunting attire in the lobby! There's also quite a number of colonial type buildings such as museums in the vicinity, which admittedly look nice! Copious amounts of info on their swanky web site, which you no doubt have already perused!
On a wider note, recommended things to see are Sentosa Island (south, by cable car or bridge, the former recommended!), the zoo or night safari (a bit out of the way but worth it, haven't seen the latter myself) and maybe the Chinese gardens which are a bit of a hike to the west (haven't been there either!).
And despite what you say, it's impossible for women to resist the allure of shopping here, especially since most things are considerably cheaper. Most shops are reputable, but never buy from a place where the price is not displayed on items (especially small electronics shops), unless you like getting fleeced! Always carry drinking water with you and when you get sick of the high life in Raffles, try some of the cuisine at local food courts - it's cheap, different and quite tasty! Just don't ask what you're eating beforehand.......!
