Paddy's Day Parade

I dragged herself off to the inaugural St. Patrick’s Day parade here in Singapore yesterday. Although the parade was pretty small, there was a good crowd there and a nice party atmosphere at the end point. Afterwards, there was Irish dancing, Malaysian dancing (I don’t know why either!) and an Irish band performing outside the nearby Irish pub.

The photo shows the ubiquitous dragon (at every parade out here!). Some of the locals really got into it, wearing shamrocks, green etc. If you look closely at the middle of the picture, you’ll see a tricolour wig proudly worn by a local!

I met a few Mayo people there and the Mayo jersey proved to be a conversation starter again! There was a gang over with the women’s football (Mayo at least being good at that!) who are here on tour this year. I tell ya, they’re hardy women – those footballers! You could tell one a mile off as they were all built like brick sh*thouses!!!!!!!!! They were as broad as they were tall. I wasn’t going to start any arguments anyway!!!
